Project Details

Chase Hartsell is an award-winning student journalist, sports media talent and video producer majoring in Communications and Media with an emphasis in Sports Media and minors in Spanish and Business Administration. Chase has received numerous awards for his work in visual media, reporting, writing and broadcast sports talent—including three student EMMY awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).
During the 2023 football season Junior running back Kendel Givens broke the school record for rushing touchdowns. Hartsell celebrated the milestone achievement with a sports feature that was broadcast on the Ouachita Sports Digital Network and shared on Ouachita Student Media’s social media channels. Hartsell wrote, directed, shot and edited the project. KATV sports anchor Steve Sullivan provided voice-over talent to make the project more meaningful for Givens, who interned with Sullivan the previous summer.
“Gold Rush” (watch below) won several regional and national awards, including:
- Winner, College Sports Story | National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, Mid-America (EMMY Awards)
- Award of Excellence | Broadcast Education Association (BEA)
- Best Sports Feature, 2nd Place | Arkansas College Media Association (ACMA)
